Ep. 04 / Brandon Wilcox on Men in Healing Spaces, Teaching from Embodied Wisdom, and What is Karma?

Welcome back to part 2 of our conversation with Brandon Wilcox! Men in healing spaces: Men may not feel empowered in the healing and spiritual spaces because they are often women - dominated spaces. Perhaps some of the resistance men feel entering these spaces is that they don’t want to feel manipulated or controlled by the women in these spaces (this can be impacted by their life experiences if they’ve been controlled or emasculated in the past). Brandon shares that in many cases when women buy their partners sessions with him there is an energy present of “she hired you so you can tell me what I’m doing wrong or how I’m not living up to expectations.” It may circle around the wound that “I need to be better, I’m not doing enough, I need to be fixed.” Individuals need to want the development and participation in the spiritual + healing spaces for themselves. We cannot force our partners or loved ones into these spaces. Why do men need this work just as much (if not more) than women? Men need to have the tools to dissipate the energy from their day and release emotions and stress. Brandon shares about his experience being one of the few males in a predominately female space. Is a new culture of spirituality being birthed? Speaking into psychic awakening and channel opening happening on a collective level. 2020 challenged the picture of reality that the collective held. Spirituality has become more popular because as a collective we are seeing the lies given to us and have been forced to find the truth within ourselves. Brandon shares concerns about spirituality going “mainstream” - that teachers who may not have been trained or embody the wisdom can cause harm or taint the experience someone has doing this work. “Keep the teachings and throw out the teacher.” If you have a bad experience with a teacher, keep the teaching and the lesson and move on to the next teacher and experience. Take your teachers off the pedestal. Self-responsibility creates self-empowerment. Teachers need to be aware and trained on how to hold neutral spaces, and empower their students to do the work for themselves. “A good teacher sees themselves as the biggest student in the room.” As a teacher, your students are reflections and show you your blinds spots and where else you get to grow and learn. A teacher that is teaching from a place of empowerment and embodiment is teaching their students to no longer need them. The importance of striving to teach from a place of lived-wisdom and embodiment. Giving clients the tools to support themselves and creating opportunities for clients to move through growth with ease. Receiving readings + healings vs having the tools to support yourself.
